How Alphapets are made.

  • The craft.

Each Alphapet begins life as a jumble of paper cuttings. I start by hand-cutting the necessary letters in my custom, modular Alphapets font, and just play with the shapes, testing out how they might start to take form.

  • The story.

During the first COVID lockdown (hence the long lockdown hair shown here) I found my usual work as a photographer & illustrator dropped off, so I kept my sanity by cutting out hundreds of letters and trying to make models out of them!

  • The Design.

Each Alphapet has gone through numerous iterations to make sure they’re free-standing, relatively sturdy & suitably shapey!
The illustrations are done with a minimalist, stylised approach, so that they feel natural within the gridded, mathematical letterforms.
